Part of the letter from the sculptor Dimensions In Bronze— Thanks for sending me a pic of Your “Fighting Longhorns” I believe I would have been a horseback or in the back of a pick up while this was taking place! And yes I will be able to use this in one of my sculptures upcoming in “heat of battle” is very dramatic and I believe I can capture it in a sculpture-Thanks a bunch………… It was kind of you to send this pic and historic note on the circumstances of the scene- I do love longhorns and am building a fair sized library on them for future reference. they were the foundation on which our great Southwest was founded-bless them all ! Regards JF
Here is one of me wielding the branding iron. I told the guys when we started that if they wanted to work on the ground they should catch the ones they wanted. As the day progressed the calves got smaller and smaller and more and more were in the pen to run through the squeeze chute. The note on the bottom was something that my sister emailed me one time .

The nurse cow that used to curl her head around me in a hug. She raised 11 calves for me every year for several years.

12 year old long horn steers that I helped gather that were running loose on the Carlsbad Highway. That was a story to tell

Me digging a water line. My well went dry so a friend with a backhoe, a son in law & I dug trenched 1 1/2 miles of water line. 3 feet deep.
Silence is not inactivity. The designer for my book designed and produced my Website. I am amazed at the amount of work that is involved, the amount of creativity that she has displayed and how she has captured the essence of not only the story of the book but even the essence of who I am. I am beyond proud. She has lifted my self confidence and perhaps more importantly started my creative juices flowing. The stories that I have stored in my head and computer are starting to pour out. At the moment they are still in a tumble. I need to untangle and organise them. Soon, very soon. I have a book on rentals which I have occasionally inserted on Medium in bits and pieces, also another book of real ranch life type stories about the trials, tribulations, mistakes and joys of ranching, also a prequel to my book The Other Side Of The River: a story of love, war, cattle and cowboys. That book was inspired by true life events and historical events. All of this has been stirred up because Cheryl Poindexter of Poindexter Design has brought my book and my enthusiasm to life. I had some serious health issues and moved from New Mexico to Tennessee. I am now getting back on track and feel the joy that writing brings. My hope is that my followers will enjoy my musings and new inspirations.
My new friend and cover designer designed and produced this website. I am immensely ignorant of such things. It tangles my mind. I have written the book The Other Side Of The River. She is helping me promote that. Words are what I love. When I was bored as a child (9–12) I would sit and look up words in the dictionary and then study the origins of words and the synonyms and antonyms of words. This would lead me on a trail that could occupy me for hours. Did you ever wonder how nerds become nerds? That’s how this one developed. Few things please me more than finding the exact word which expresses the exact feeling or nuance. I have read many times that the way to get known on the multi medias is that you have to publish something constantly, whether it is any good or not. Whether you really have anything to say. I can’t do that. I respect myself and my readers too much to vomit -please excuse the course word- any bilge just for the sake of staying in the public eye. I worked in the field of interior design for most of my adult life. While I worked I also raised cattle, by myself. The learning experiences themselves supply many amusing stories. When I sold the cattle I bought houses to renovate and rent . This provided enough amusing and horror stories to fill a book- which I have done. Once my web page is up and running I will share some of each of these, maybe along with episodes from my book (many of which are based on my life.) When I look back I sometimes wonder how I got it all done. Probably just by Not looking back. My sister used to tell me to stop and turn around once in a while. I guess I have finally reached a stage in my life where I can do that. I appreciate those who have chosen to spend their precious time on my musings. I have more time to do that now.
