By Sandra Allensworth Two magnetic stories toggle between 1862 and 2012, intertwined over two eras of time. A beautiful evocation of landscapes that take the reader from the swamps of Louisiana to the dusty plains of New Mexico. From the Civil War to ranch life in modern times. The captivating stories toggle between love, war, cattle and cowboys.
Morgan falls in love with Sophia when she tends the wounds he acquired during the battle at Glorieta Pass, the only Civil War battle ever fought in New Mexico. When the war is over he returns to New Mexico, searching for Sophia.
While looking for cattle he rescues a man drowning in the raging River. He is swept into 1988. Morgan battles modern day rustlers, range fires and raising an orphaned Carolina. The day he meets Charlie Dunn, an old man living on The River, his life changes. Charlie tells him there is a way back if he is willing to risk his life. Morgan is faced with a heartbreaking decision.
In 2012 Carolina is faced with her husband’s infidelity and longs to return to her first love. She betrayed him once. Travis is raising two girls and doesn’t trust her with his heart.

A Word From The Author
“When I look back, I sometimes wonder how I got it all done. Probably just by not looking back. My sister used to tell me to stop and turn around once in awhile. I guess I have finally reached a stage in my life where I can do that. I appreciate those who have chosen to spend their precious time on my musings. I have more time to do that now.”

What Readers Are Saying
My book has just been published and many are reading. There will be more reviews soon!
Being a ranch owner myself, I was able to feel like I was there experiencing everything that was described in the book. Sandra’s rich descriptions of horses, ranching, rivers, cowboys and romance made me feel I was there. Loved the book. Will read it again.
Cheryl PoindexterReview on Book 1
It’s difficult to write a dual timeline novel and make it work, particularly with a first novel, but Sandra succeeds in thrilling fashion.
Skip PressReview on Book 1
The Other Side of The River drew me into two worlds—the world of war, sacrifice, and love; and the world of cowboys, cattle drives, and betrayal. Allensworth has done an excellent job of taking me, the reader, on a ride to the “other side of The River” and back. She takes Morgan Donnally, the main character, across The River for a time shift from 1862 to 2012. Allensworth is talented at relating historical facts in her fictional tale of war and love in both eras. The author’s tale is a story of love found, love lost, and love renewed. I look forward to the sequel.
Larry SidowReview on Book 1
Loved the book. I felt like I was there experiencing everything. It made ranching real to me, especially where Sandra Allensworth describes the cattle work in the past and how different it is now. I am buying copies for gifts. Will read it again.

Chapter 1
First of all let me tell you about a very bosomy friend of mine who complained about excessive perspiration and chaffing in that area. I suggested that she put corn starch in her bra to relieve the discomfort. When I later had occasion to ask her if my suggestion helped, she replied, “Have you ever had pudding in your bra?” Similarly, while many of the things I am about to tell you may be true universally, I am speaking only from my personal experiences and those of close friends.
I have researched dozens of titles on the subject of being a landlord and have not found a single one which deals with the hand to hand, down in the ditches kind of things which I address, by example, in this book. I have tried to explain how I have dealt with real issues and life size problems.
My hope is that you will find that I have done just that using truth, wisdom and humor. I want you to know up front what a contractor friend of mine told me early on: An expert is a drip under pressure. I can therefore be considered an expert.

Where do they come from? Who raises them? How do they get that way.? There is a prayer at the end of my book.
Landlord’s Prayer
Father, grant me patience. Quickly, please. I am very angry and I seek your peace and wisdom. Please keep one Hand on my shoulder and the Other over my mouth. Most of what I want to say will not help the situation. Let me always be mindful that I will have to explain my actions to a judge and to You. Please give me strength and endurance. I need both. Help me to remember why I chose this profession. Bring to mind my good intentions. Help me, Father, because you know that I don’t want to end up in prison over this. Amen

In this world of fake and pretend the word badass means someone who is aggressive and strikes fear in people. I personally believe that a true badass is NOT someone who wears a tight t-shirt over bulging muscles. It is not someone who uses bad language or harsh words or wears a threatening face.
I personally believe that a true badass is someone that doesn’t let people run over them. A badass is someone who goes quietly about their business making their corner of the world a better place.
If someone leans, you lean back a little harder. If someone keeps leaning, you lean harder until you make your point. If it turns ugly, you meet them with adequate pressure to insure that they turn away. It also means that if you do this, you are willing to suffer the consequences of your actions. A punch in the nose, getting fired from a job, getting divorced. Just use prudence. If they are packing a gun, consider your actions carefully. Discretion is the better part of valor.
